While at Camp, our 5th graders participated in
several outdoor classes. Among those
were Aquatic Adventures, Down to Earth,
and Songs, Sparks & Stories. These science based activities covered the
entire CCRS for Ecosystems and standard 13 for Earth’s Place in the Universe.
The hands-on activities allowed the students to be fully invested the 5E
instructional model and encouraged inquiry.
The students also participated in a STEAM lesson entitled Invention Convention, which was
designed to challenge their creative minds through scientific exploration and
engineering processes. Now, we all know that “all work and no play” is NO
FUN! Our kids were able to canoe Clear
Creek in a two-man canoe, play field games during rec-time, and beat their
fears with the 20 foot trust swing. Each meal was fed family-style and the
student’s participated in clean-up afterward.
After SSS, the student’s made S’mores and both camp nights were full of
screams and giggles in the cabins. It was a wonderful learning adventure that
created friendships and memories that will last much longer than 5th
grade.
