Last Week of September

Is it REALLY the last week of September?

This might be my absolute FAVORITE time of year! Football, fall weather, long sleeves, and boots. Ahhh! There is something so rejuvenating about the brisk air.  As we march into the fall season, we have big plans in the fourth grade.

We are changing our Reading Schedule around, somewhat. We will be testing on WEDNESDAYS, now.  Our new story and assignments will run from Wednesday to Wednesday. Beginning on the 26th, we will start "Grace and the Time Machine."
Our Spelling pattern is ar/or and the vocabulary will be:                    Awkward   Vehicle   Miracle   Mechanical   Aboard   Atlas   Reseats   Capable   Chant

The MATH focus is on Time and Money. We should be ready to test by the first of October.

Science is still all about the Solar System and our Moon Phases

Alabama History focus is on the Geography of Alabama.

9/11 Memorial...

Today, we talked briefly about the events of 9/11/2001 and watched a live feed from New York. It was a very sobering event for us all.  We also dissected the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance and discussed words such as: Allegiance, United, Republic, Indivisible, Liberty and Justice.  We made vows to do something kind in honor of those who lost their lives.

Weekly update:  We have Reading, Spelling, and Vocabulary tests on Thursday.  Monday of next week, we will test on the Phases of the Moon.  The students should be documenting what the moon looks like & its' phase each night, in their journals.

Parents: Please encourage good behavior on Monday and Tuesday, the 17th-18th. I will be at GEMS-U at the Space & Rocket Center. It is a great opportunity for our school & I need our 4th graders to be on their best behavior while I am gone.  Wednesday the 19th is our first Early Release Day also.

Please practice following multi-step directions, at home.  These students are struggling with following both written and verbal directions.

THANK YOU for your constant support!

What a fast week... Friday, September 7th we started reading “Because of Winn-Dixie” by Kate DiCamillo.
We will focus on some vocabulary words in this story.  It would be helpful if you will reinforce the meaning of these words at home with your child.  Also, on this newsletter you will find our spelling words for the week.  Please practice these words at home as well.  The words in italics are our challenge spelling words.  Let’s have a great week!

It's a SHORT week with LOTS to do...

Don't forget that September 5th you need to have all of your materials for the time line and sequencing project.
We will test on the Topic 3 in Math on Friday.  I think we will be ready to test on the Horned Toad Prince on Thursday, as normal.

This class is doing great! We must continue to work on following directions and being ProActive!! It is going to be a super Fall!
